i choose to be mad
i got this today in my email box from a very well-meaning and nice co-worker - she sent it around to our group. it's from stephen r. covey quotes, a motivational speaker/guru/dayplanner thingy.

With reactive language, you blame outside forces (like other people and circumstances) for your situation. Essentially, what you're saying is that you're not free to choose your own actions. Proactive language. "I choose to." "I will." "I prefer to." Now you're talkin'! With proactive language, you and only you are responsible for your actions. Self-fulfilling prophecy. Over time, reactive language will have you feeling victimized and believing you are out of control, while proactive language puts you in the driver's seat. Remember, you are what you speak!so, in line with this new happy speak - i choose to be mad. i will be pissed off - and i prefer to be grumpy right now. doesn't mean forever - just means in this moment. now: i could choose to walk off this project. i -would- then be free. i wouldn't be restrained, held hostage to it or be accountable to it. wonder why covey forgot to mention this. that is being proactive right? buh bye.
