this is coming up. i have no airplane tix....yet. i really want to go to this. if you have some time and a bit of change, fly up. enjoy san fran. and revel in all that is bike. i love bikes. i love bike people. i love movies. i love art. (there's a bike art show too) this festival has been to: new york, los angeles, london, and it will end in tokyo. (dang. not austin) bicycle film festival 2005 here's a few i picked out of the crowd.
- KIEST PARK USA 2005 | 16mm, 5 minutes. DIRECTOR: John Ayala A seven year-old leaves his parents and his block for the first time to explore, observe and destroy in a vast new world.
- FAST AND RELIABLE USA 2005 | DV, 8 minutes. DIRECTOR: Tom Soper It is tough enough starting your own business in New York—- try starting your own bike messenger service with one leg.
- A SUNDAY IN HELL Denmark 1973 | 35mm, 110 minutes. Director: Jorgen Leth A rare screening of one of the finest cycling films ever made. It features the annual Paris-Roubaix road race, which taxes the energy of Europe's top riders. A Sunday in Hell is over 100 minutes of finely-calculated suspense that leaves viewers limp from pain and pure excitement Don't miss this rare and amazing film!
- ADVENTURE HIGH [ United States Premiere ] ESTONIA 2004 | DV, 89 minutes. Director: Lino Niglas Estonian, Chinese, Russian, with English subtitles. Five friends travel by bicycle from Mongolia to Nepal hoping to experience old fashioned travel adventures. Their four month Journey leads them through diverse landscapes and harsh conditions in the Gobi desert and the high Himalayas. They meet great people along the way (Mongolian nomads, Buddhist pilgrims, and yak herders in the Himalayas). All five travelers are different and this is reflected in the relationships within the group. One of the bicyclists is the author of the film.
- PURE SWEET HELL USA 2005 | 8mm, 62 minutes. Director: Brian Vernor + Willie K. Bullion Bullion and Vernor take their cues from Surf Films and Classic Cycling Films to present one of the fastest growing bicycling sports in the United States. Shot entirely on Super 8 and incorporating a mix of instrumental rock music, voice over interviews, and constructed sound it digs deep into the cold, muddy, and anything but relaxing sport of Cyclocross. This film is an insider's view that gives an intimate look with a human touch that any outsider could appreciate.
- M.A.S.H. [World Premeire] USA Mini DV, 10 minutes DIRECTORS: Mike Martin, Gabe Morford Bay Area riders kill San Francisco with one gear and no brakes. This short highlights the breakthrough style of local SF riders.
- MONSTER TRACK VI USA 2005 | Video, 5 minutes. DIRECTOR: Lucas Brunelle This alleycat is fixed-gear only. It was set on one of the coldest days of the year in New York City. Catch the intensity of riding in New York with some of the world's most-skilled city riders.
