a readers good comments about bikin the pie
i want to thank kris for taking the time to write up his comments bout bikin my dog. i take them as caring and thoughtful. and i appreciate your concern. as well as you coming by to visit the site.
i should clarify a couple things. i was being a bit facetious about using him as my sled dog. he might like to pull, but i dont encourage it or tolerate it for long as i think its too much for him. there is only one short section where he likes to run at full speed ahead - we then slow to a meandering trot/walk for the duration of the ride. most of our ride takes place in a huge empty parking lot. we encounter very little traffic on the neighborhood road to and from this parking lot. its slow Netherlands-style riding.
that being said: your concerns about it being too hot in Austin for this activity has given me concern. we only ride late in the evening, when the sun is low but not yet set. lately, our breaks have been longer than the actual riding. sunday we rode to the parking lot and around for a bit, then we both lay down in the grass for about 15minutes.
once we get home, i cool him off slowly with the water hose, we sit outside for a bit then go inside to the air conditioner. during all this, i have lots of cold water breaks for him and am constantly watching him to check his mood and exertion level.
one thing you are so right about: he will continue to want to go go go even if he's tired and overexerted. when i bring him into the house and then go back outside to put the bike up, he runs to the door after me and then cries while im outside. he thinks i am going back out riding without him.
its true. they just want to please u and be with you. he is obedient and strong and steadfastly loyal. although i do believe he needs a good round of exercise, i will be shortening our trips out and keeping him to a low level walk. we will lay in the grass once we get to the parking lot more often during the summer and i have plenty of water on hand that i make sure he drinks.
i thank you again for your kind concerns and taking the time to comment. im glad u can read in my posts that im nuts over my dogs - and consider them mi familia to love and care for always.

Nice. You rule, Megan. The Pie Pie is a lucky pup.
I feel like a bit of a heel for stealing some joy from the two of you. Pit bulls are the greatest dogs in the world, I think. Timmy's right: Molee is one lucky boy.
my dogs know when it is too hot....
they just mellow out and pant
unless they are by the water
then they run!
