GIRO D'GHETTO -- 2006 ALLEYCAT STAGE RACE

back to race info

SUNDAY FINALE - from brian

Sorry this took so long.  I've actually generated 3 different versions of this over the last week and something always happened to make them not go out.  If anything, at least they keep getting shorter.

Please see the attached files for the overall totals.  You may notice that Gordon actually did win afterall.  Go math skillz!

Here's the flickr group that we've collectively started

Alright so just a quick rundown of people I need to thank. I could say thanks a million times to all of them but it's not as if anyone reads these things already...

- Shelley - probably did as much on this race as I did.  If you're going to thank me, you need to thank her just as much.  And anyone that didn't make it to the closing party missed out on an amazing cake.

 - Elizabeth - Came through with a great route for the checkpoint race.  Those things are just too much of a pain in the ass to plan for me to deal with that in the middle of the week and I probably would screw them up anyway.

- Megan - Although she didn't get a chance to race a lot of it, she still helped SO much by making the design for the spoke cards and updating her site with info every night, even while she was having a hectic week herself.

- Ron B - Comes through another time with a great closing party.  He tried to help me out with other stuff too but Shelley kept beating him to the punch.  Sorry Ron.  Next year you get a fun job, I promise.

 - Ellie @ Reload bags: I went over this a bit at the party but I really need to meet Ellie and give her a big hug for being the only "big" sponsor that came through for me this year.  As a little incentive to race next year - I plan on getting a bag made for the winner, similar to the top 4 on this page, but with our little skeleton guy as the center of attention.

- Brent Nutting - For the aforementioned little skeleton guy.  I had no idea what to expect when I asked Nutt to make a stencil for me and that thing just totally rocks!

- Emily - Cutest start girl/cowgirl of all time, hands down.  And she even brought prizes for the winners!

- Lee @ Eastside Pedal Pushers - Would have liked to have seen him more nights but he IS a businessman afterall.  Thanks for the great prize Lee!

- Tina and Tom @ Empire BMX - I love these people as human beings even aside from the fact that they own the best BMX shop on the planet!  Go buy stuff from them!  Owen needs a college education!

- Andrew @ Yellow Jersey - Comes through with those great yellow caps and bottles again.  If anyone hasn't heard the story of my connection to Yellow Jersey, please ask.  I think it's mildly entertaining.

- Gordo - For being such a good sport through all my shit talking and just riding this race like it's meant to be ridden - win all you can and place when you can't.  Another great year of performances on Gordons part!

- Kelly - For being this years "come out of nowhere" story of the year and for sticking with it for as many days as you could.  I hope your daughter is feeling better and that the whole experience was fun for you.  I've got a trophy for you if you want to stop by Bicycle Sport Shop and pick it up.

I think that's about it, aside from to thank everyone that showed up every night or even if you just made it for the checkpoint night.  I hope you all had as much fun as I did and that more of you make it out for next years.  I will keep doing it as long as people keep showing up.  I also really plan on doing that Warriors-style race sometime once it cools off.  Until then - anyone have ideas?

Much love to everyone and thanks again for making it all worthwhile!
Brian

p.s. respond to this message if you want/need any spoke cards and/or shirts printed.

p.p.s. Helmet vote August 24 <http://lobv.org/>  - please go vote this dumbass law out so we don't have to deal with any more cop harassment than we already do.
