with the summer daytime heat subsiding just a little, folks started gathering around 8pm at clowndog for another fun eve of racing, drinking, skidding and laughing. this time around, lee set it up with a mystery rider, dubbed el santo, showing up in mexican wrestler mask and ready to tear up the competition. around 9pm, el santo emerged and headed out and the race was on. i made up some race spoke cards, and the only way i could justify running one was to race. or attempt to. so i ducked in at the last moment and headed out with the group. the course rocked. nice corners...pretty smooth road...and a great course marshall man at the duval corner where it was a blind turn. whoever you were, you were awesome and so friendly. thanks for standing there. i ended up with 2 laps...and have to say it was total fun. even doing the race in my mary jane shoes wasn't that big a deal. but, i should have popped in a water bottle full of water or beer - i could have finished then - ha. freakin hot out there. so i sat the rest of the race out and took fotos. whitney ended up beating el santo at the end. and the unmasking of el santo began. i can't believe he raced in that mask...talk about hot and sweaty. then the track bikes lined up for a skidding contest. that was great. and again: it was whitney's nite. he flowed, glided, and flew in slow motion to the longest point than anyone else. dustin got really close - and in fact, i think in the end they couldn't really decide who won. ha...everyone had some good skidding going on. there was a band in clowndog ripping out some tunes. the cops even came by to say hi. right? that's why they stopped huh? well. ryan had to explain we had some folks out on a ride and the ride was about to be over (at this point they had one lap to go). ride...not race. just a sunday evening cruise mr. officer. and that was that. another fun alleycat crit nite in austin. big big thanks to lee for organizing this event and everyone for coming out. seemed like all had a good time. |
